Celebrity Caricatures!

Humphrey Bogart

These are a few sample caricatures I did for brochures, ads, etc. I started with thinking, "Who's the most famous face... Oh yea! Bogie!" That got me the first one.

Whoopi Goldberg

Next, I had drawn Whoopi Goldberg once before, but the difficulty at that time was that she was changing her look a lot from film to film. Later, she settled on the long dreadlocks and tinted glasses, so I drew her again.

Drew Carey

Now I had the opportunity to draw one of my favored popular comedians, Drew Carey. He looked best to me in black & white, but I was regretful that his compatriats on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" weren't more well known. Nothing would be funnier to me than drawing caricatures of Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery!

Cruella De Vil

I then decided I needed another color sample, but made the odd choice of a character best known for the stark black & white look. Glenn Close as the former cartoon villainess Cruella De Vil seemed even more striking with that dash of pale peach skin and bold red lipstick!

So, afew years later, I need something new in the way of celebrities. Immediately I think of the Brucester. I tried him at first with his newer, shaven headed, look, but it just didn't scream "Bruce Willis"! So I did him as ol' John McClane!

Ian McKellen

Next, the beginning of a 3-part sample piece, I chose Sir Ian McKellen. Here he is in caricature as the celebrity, next I'll produce a Character Portrait of Ian as Magneto, then a realistic "Fantasy Portrait" in pencil of Ian as Gandalf. I think that will make a great example of the differences in these styles! I'll have a color version of this one up shortly!

manson

This was a particularly peculiar one. I was contracted to caricaturize Charles Manson for "The Strip Cult" Rock Musical! Not what I would normally consider a "celebrity", but it's just weird enough to seem like fun to me!
