This was a fun project in 2003 which has already produced a call-back from the client for a second mural.
The concept was: turn-of-the-century newspaper illustration style Victorian women. We (the client and I) developed this into
a street-scene, which included an iron-scrollwork archway, a distant cityscape, a lampost and street sign (which I used to
sign the mural), and a carriage.
We also took the "Curves" logo (2 cartoony women holding out their jeans to show how much weight they've lost), and translated
it to Victorian clothing. We added a few accents here and there (over doorways, etc.) to complete the look. The painting
was all done in a dark dull brown on the pale dusty-rose wall, using a few elements of the dull burgundy to further connect
it to the other walls.
As a final touch, we used the client/owner, Sandy Hanner, and her 2 daughters and daughter-in-law for the faces of the
women!
Below is the main mural with zoom-in shots all around.
